Abstract
Hypophysectomy in rats and mice terminated lactation. Animals hypophysec-tomized during pregnancy secreted milk for a few hours after parturition. Caesarian section late in pregnancy in rats induced lactation, excepting in cases of simultaneous hypophysectomy or the distention of the uterus with paraffin. Continuation of suckling in animals in which galactophores are tied prevents involution of the glands. In virgin rats paraffin distention of the uterus caused prolonged diestrus without mammary development. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
