Abstract
M. saxatilis, a perennial, native to the Crimean mountains, is hexaploid, with 2n = 48. Of the 3 diploid spp. (M. pironae Vis., M. daghestanica Rupr. and M. rhodopaea Velen.) that have pods similar to those of saxatilis, rhodopaea appears to be morphologically closest to saxatilis. A surprising finding was that pollen of saxatillis, when applied to cultivated alfalfa, resulted in a good initiation (up to 64%) of pollinated flowers. Definite conclusions regarding the origin and relationship of M. saxatilis are not made. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
