Abstract
High‐resolution spectrum of Yb3+ in the cubic field of CaF2 is reported. The striking features of the spectrum are two strong sharp lines at 10 384.759 and 10 377.039 cm—1 at 4.2°K. The position of the two lines and their separation was measured as a function of the temperature. The line shape is Lorentzian. The possible position of the various Stark levels of the ground state is discussed. Keywords
