Abstract
An explanation of the large elastoresistance effects discovered by Smith has been proposed by Herring and by Adams. Smith's preliminary measurements of the temperature dependence of the effect are not in agreement with this explanation. A more extensive study of the temperature dependence of the elastoresistance in n-type germanium shows that the magnitude of the effect is proportional within experimental error to T1, a result which is consistent with the theory.
