METABOLISM OF THE STERIOD HORMONES, METABOLISM OF PROGESTERONE AND RELATED STEROIDS1

Abstract
Several aspects of the intermediate metabolism of progesterone in vivo have been studied by isolation of urinary metabolites. Admn. of progesterone led to the isolation in the urine of pregnanediol 3([alpha] ), 20([alpha] ), allopregnanediol 3([alpha] ), 20( [alpha]) and pregnanolone. Admn. of pregnanedione-3,20 yielded pregnanediol-3([alpha]), 20([alpha]) in the urine. Admn. of allopregnanedione-3,20 yielded allopregnanediol-3([alpha]), 20([alpha]) and allopregnanediol-3 ([beta]), 20([alpha]) in the urine. Admn. of [DELTA]5-pregnendiol-3([beta]), 20([alpha]) led to the isolation in the urine of pregnanediol-3([alpha]), 20([alpha]) and [DELTA]5-pregnenediol-3([beta]), 20([alpha]).
