CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM OF PENICILLIUM CHRYSOGENUM

Abstract
Cell free extracts of P. chrysogenum were obtained by irradiating a mixture of mycelia and alumina at 10 kc in a Raytheon magnitostriction oscillator. With the exception of phosphohexokinase, the enzymes of the Embden-Meyerhof pathway were found. The following phosphorylated compounds were isolated with a Dowex-1 column: glucose-6-phosphate, fructose-6-phosphate, fructose -1,6 -diphosphate, glucose -1 -phosphate, pentose -phosphates, heptose-phosphate, mononucleotides, dinucleotides, and trinucleotides. The absorption spectrum of an extract was determined.
