Abstract
Six strains of Blastomyces dermatitidis were examined for their biotin requirement in a synthetic medium. All required biotin for growth, and the degree of growth was proportional to the concentration of biotin. A recently isolated strain had a requirement (0.04 ug/l) for maximal growth, smaller than the requirement (0.1 ug/l) of an old laboratory culture. The only substance found to replace biotin was DL-desthiobiotin, which had half the activity of biotin itself. Keywords
