Abstract
0ver a period of 5 yrs., studies were carried out in diabetic subjects under quantitatively controlled conditions to evaluate the mechanism of the effects of cortical steroids upon carbohydrate metabolism in these subjects. On the basis of these findings, it is concluded that (1) there is much evidence in favor of acceleration of neoglucogenesis from fat by corticoids; and (2) the K depletion produced by the admn. of cortical steroids is in significant measure responsible for the production of insulin resistance. As a corollary to the latter, if sufficient K is supplied, insulin resistance can be prevented. Keywords
