Abstract
One hundred and two determinations of cardiac output by cuvette oximeter were done on 17 dogs. Of these, 51 were done under thiopental Na-02 alone, and 51 (on the same 17 dogs) under combined thiopental Na-O2-cyclopropane anesthesia. Cardiac output increased during the period of thiopental Na-O2 analgesia. There was a decided decrease in cardiac output when cyclopropane administration was begun and it tended to remain steadier than under thiopental Na-O2 alone. Heart rate decreased markedly when cyclopropane was given. The stroke volume increased under thiopental but remained steady under cyclopropane. Blood pressure decreased when cyclopropane administration was begun. The peripheral resistance increased when cyclopropane was added. Cardiovascular functions are maintained with greater constancy when cyclopropane is present. Keywords
