Abstract
The two main protein components for life and cellular function are undoubtedly the nucleinic acids and the enzymatic equipment of the cell. The enzymic patrimony of the old cell is reduced in toto and therefore it is more difficult for it to provide for its own vital needs. During life there is also a change in the nucleinic patrimony of the cell which in old age leads to a reduction and change of the cellular enzymatic pattern of adult type. Both are important in creating the functional pattern that leads to the lowered adaptibility of the senile organism. Keywords
