Abstract
Knowledge of flow induced corrosion has improved greatly over the past 25 years as more sophisticated test equipment and in situ measurement techniques such as laser Doppler anemometry and thin layer analysis have been developed. The mechanisms involved and the complex interactions between flowing fluids and component surfaces have become better understood – partially as a result of collaboration with fluid dynamics specialists. These developmenss are briefly reviewed, drawing on examples from oilfield injection pumps and power generating equipment. The advantages and disadvantages of drag reducing additives are also considered. Keywords
