Abstract
Magnetization configurations are computed for ferromagnetic spheres with a uniaxial anistropy, in zero applied field. The magnetization is constrained to be symmetrical about the central plane perpendicular to the easy axis, and to have a cylindrical symmetry about the easy axis, but no other constraint is introduced a priori. The resulting configuration is essentially that of two domains separated by a 180°, cylindrically symmetrical wail. For a sphere with the physical constants of cobalt, this configuration has a lower energy than that of two domains separated by a planar domain wall, calculated by Stapper (1969).Keywords
