Abstract
The recently reported data of Parker and Wilshire (1976) and the inferences drawn from these data are re-examined. Contrary to Parker and Wilshire's conclusions, it is suggested that their stress-drop data do provide evidence for the importance of subgrain size in determining the creep rate at a given stress. In order for subgrain size effects to be properly discerned, consideration must be given to the magnitude of strain allowed following the stress drop, and also to the presence of simultaneous anelastio transients. Keywords
