Abstract
Radioselenium (Se75), following both oral and intravenous administration, was incorporated into the globin moiety of hemoglobin in newly-formed ovine erythrocytes. This selenium remained in the erythrocyte for the entire life span of the cell. Estimates of the erythrocyte life span calculated from Se75 turnover averaged 157 days in sheep 1 to 2 years of age.
