A study of enzymes that can break down tobacco-leaf components. 4. Mammalian pancreatic and salivary enzymes

Abstract
A11 starch was removed from tobacco leaf fiber by incubation with salivary amylase. All starch and about 80% of the total N were removed by commercial trypsin. Incubation of the fiber with commercial trypsin led to a loss of chloroform-soluble material. Figures were given for the composition of the participate matter, chiefly chloroplasts, in crude tobacco-leaf saps. The nature of the nitrogenous substances of the fiber was discussed.
