Abstract
Recombination had previously been detected in Escherichia coli strain K-12 with the help of a selective nutritional technique. A method using growth inhibitors is discussed in general terms, and verified by an experiment using streptomycin and sodium azide to select genetic recombinants from mixtures of mutants resistant to one or the other of these inhibitors. The importance of using unselected markers in expts. which apply selective methods to demonstrate recombination is emphasized. Keywords
