Abstract
Summary: The electrophoretic patterns in starch gel in 8 M urea of the L chains of dissociated guinea pig and rat anti-DNP antibodies were investigated. Guinea pig anti-DNP antibodies isolated from weekly bleedings of individual animals or from pooled guinea pig antisera yielded 5 L chain bands in urea starch gel. Rat anti-DNP antibodies also showed bands in the zone of L chain migration, but their pattern differed from that of guinea pig antibodies. Guinea pig γ1 and γ2 anti-DNP antibodies yielded the same 5 L chain bands. A study of the fractions of guinea pig or rat anti-DNP antibodies separated by zone electrophoresis at pH 8.6 revealed that different L chains are obtained from antibodies with different electrophoretic mobilities. Keywords
