Abstract
In 379 controlled diabetic patients, the incidence of liver enlargement, as detd. by percussion of the liver dullness, was only 9%. In 70 patients with uncontrolled diabetes, 60% had enlargement of the liver. Each of the 10 patients with keto-acidosis had hepatomegaly and they had the largest livers. These results correspond with the observation that fatty deposits occur in the livers of untreated and uncontrolled diabetic patients. The hepatomegaly of uncontrolled diabetics reverts to normal within 7-10 days with control of the diabetic state, and without the necessity of lipotropes other than those supplied by the diet. Keywords
