Abstract
We show that in quasi-one-dimensional systems there can be more than one collective mode associated with a single intersubband transition, if both subbands involved in the transition are partially occupied. To aid the search for such modes we calculate not only their dispersion relation but also their signal strength in a proposed infrared grating-coupler transmission experiment. Keywords
