Abstract
21 strains of P. tularensis were found to ferment glucose and glycerol. Most strains fermented mannose, levulose, and maltose. All strains failed to ferment galactose, lactose, sucrose, raffinose, melizitose, arabinose, rhamnose, xylose, mannitol, dulcitol, sorbitol and salicin. An alkaline reaction was produced by P. tularensis in media not containing a utilizable carbohydrate; but, in the presence of a utilizable carbohydrate, an initial acidity followed by an alkaline reversion was noted. The production of H2S was studied. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
