Prevention and Treatment of Agranulocytosis and Leukopenia in Rats Given Sulfanilylguanidine or Succinyl Sulfathiazole in Purified Diets

Abstract
Rats given sulfaguanidine (sulfanilylguanidine) or sulfasuxidine (succinyl sulfathiazole) in purified diets develop an agranulocytosis, a leukopenia, and a hypocellularity of bone marrow. This blood dyscrasia can largely be prevented or successfully treated with whole dried liver or with certain liver extracts.
