Abstract
The metabolism of radioactive estrone and 17 [beta]-estradiol by the golden hamster has been investigated. The urinary metabolites were the same following the administration of either compound. Estrone, 2-methyoxyestrone and 2-hydroxyestrone were rigorously identified, and 2-hydroxyestrone was quantitatively the major radioactive compound found. Some evidence was obtained for the possible presence of 2-hydroxyestradiol. Conjugation was predominantly as glucuronoside. The results show that effective metabolism of ring A of the estrogens occurs in this animal, with no evidence of substitution in ring D.This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
