Abstract
Administration of tolbutamide by mouth or vein results in essentially the same hypoglycemic response in man, dog, rabbit, rat, chicken and duck. Whereas alloxanized dogs, rabbits and rats show no hypoglycemic response to tolbutamide, alloxanized chickens, depancreatized ducks and completely enterectomized ducks develop a brisk hypoglycemic response. Accordingly, the hypoglycemic response of the fowl to tolbutamide is independent of the presence of the pancreas and/or the discharge of insulin into the circulation. Keywords
