Abstract
A 180° magnetic‐field electron velocity analyzer described in an earlier paper has been used to clarify the vibrational fine structure in the molecular photoelectron spectra which helium resonance line photons (hv=21.21 eV) excite in carbon dioxide, carbon oxysulfide, carbon disulfide, and nitrous oxide. Experimental Franck—Condon factors for ionization from the levels of CO2 and N2O lying just above 21.21 eV have been determined and compared in the case of two of the CO2+ states (X, A) with calculated values. For COS only one state (C) could be analyzed and in CS2 no detailed structure could be resolved. Vertical I.P. values have however now been recorded for all these levels. Keywords
