Steroid Biosynthesis by Rat Adrenal: During Development of Adrenal Regeneration and Desoxycorticosterone Acetate-Induced Hypertension

Abstract
The steroidogenic ability of adrenals from rats with DC A or adrenal regeneration hypertension has been studied in vitro. In each case aldosterone production was markedly reduced, resulting ultimately in a reduced aldosterone to corticosterone ratio. It was found that drinking 1% sodium chloride or receiving pellets of DC A effected a reduction in aldosterone production even in the presence or absence of the pituitary. The effect of DC A and NaCl could be observed as early as 24 hr after initiation of treatment. No correlation could be found between the disrupted aldosterone to corticosterone ratio and level of blood pressure. (Endocrinology74: 762, 1964)
