Abstract
Tree trunks of apple were sprayed during July with several 4,6-dinitro-o-cresol formulae, and also with one of DDT and diatomaceous earth. Triton B-1956 was used as an emulsifying agent in all cases. Mature larvae placed on the tree trunks from 4 to 7 days after spraying suffered mortalities of 39-85% on the dinitro series. Larvae placed 31 days after spraying were killed 34-68% and those placed at 61 days, 32-79%. Larvae placed on the DDT-treated trees were killed 85% at the 1st placing, 28% at the 2d, and 20% at the 3d. This is a new method of reducing the numbers of mature summer larvae. Safety to trees has not been detd. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
