Abstract
Antirabic vaccines were prepd. by inactivation with low pressure mercury vapor or resonance lamps, with the Oppenheimer-Levinson lamp, with phenol and with chloroform. The potency of these vaccines was detd. against both fixed and street virus, antibody response was tested and potency after overexposure of virus were compared. Irradiated vaccines were more potent than chemically inactivated vaccines. 20% emulsions could be irradiated. The storage at 4[degree]C of irradiated vaccines was satisfactory. Over-exposure up to 5 times that required to inactivate did not destroy the potency. The important factor in irradiating vaccines is the thin-film exposure technic rather than the type of lamp used.
