EFFECT OF DESOXYCORTICOSTERONE ON INFLAMMATION AFTER LOCAL ADMINISTRATION

Abstract
A granuloma pouch was formed in 120 female rats. Desoxycorticosterone (DOC) was injected into the wall of the pouch; pregnane-3,20-dione, reported to be hormonally inactive, was used as a control substance. DOC inhibited inflammation when used locally but was known to stimulate when injected systemically. The authors concluded that the results found suggest that DOC may be converted by the inflammatory tissues into a compound possessing antiphlogistic properties.
