INFLUENCE OF STRESS AND ENDOCRINE FACTORS ON PLASMA PROTEINS IN THE RAT

Abstract
A total of 72 male albino rats were subjected to experimental stress, adrenalectomy, hypophysectomy and somatotropin (STH) administration and the changes in the serum protein concentrations noted. Hypophysectomy reduced the absolute amount of serum proteins, principally due to a reduction in the albumin and alpha-1 globulin fractions. STH increased both of these fractions in the hypophysec-tomized rat. Stress increased the amount of globulin, and it appeared that the enhancement of globulin synthesis accompanying stress was due to the action of STH.
