Abstract
The ranges of salivary tryptophane levels in centrifuged saliva from groups of school children, students, hygienists, and outpatients were found to be almost identical . A mean value of 23 [plus or minus] 8 (standard deviation) [mu]g./ml. was calculated for the 145 samples. For each group the distr. of values was abnormal in that there were comparatively few central values. Caries experience (DMF counts) was detd. for the outpatient group, and found to be unrelated to the corresponding salivary tryptophane levels, whether or not allowances were made for existing susceptibility or rate of salivary flow. Keywords
