Adrenal Function in Pantothenic Acid Deficiency

Abstract
Rats put on a pantothenic acid-deficient diet and examined at intervals over a 90-day period showed a progressive decline in adrenal cholesterol concn., no alteration in adrenal ascorbic acid concn., an increase in enzyme activity (succinic dehydrogenase) of the adrenal up to the 50th day with a decline thereafter, and no loss in the ability to react to stress as judged by the discharge of ascorbic acid. However, these changes were only associated with a deficiency of pantothenic acid and not with a deficiency of other B complex factors.
