Abstract
ELEVATION of the serum uric acid after the administration of chlorothiazide was noted by Laragh, Heinemann and Demartini1 in the course of investigating the diuretic properties of the drug. Oren et al.2 reported 2 cases of gouty arthritis and elevated serum uric acid in patients receiving prolonged chlorothiazide therapy for hypertension. It is the purpose of this paper to present a similar case and to record some observations on the serum uric acid and urinary urate excretion after the administration of hydrochlorothiazide.Case ReportJ.F. (A406),¶ a 48-year-old man, was admitted to the Seattle Veterans Administration Hospital because of pain . . .Keywords
