Abstract
An agar-liquid flask system was employed to obtain gonococcal growth several times more dense than normal in a representative liquid medium. Counts as high as 5 x 109 cells per ml were attained. By incorporation of the complex medium into the agar underlay and use of distilled water as the overlay, the biphasic system permitted luxuriant growth of gonococci in a clear menstruum. The biphasic principle of medium simplification was suggested to be applicable to other fastidious organisms. Keywords
