Abstract
In a previous paper (1), it was reported that with repetitions of percolation of soil with nitrite the number of nitrite-oxidizing bacteria continued to increase, even though the rate of nitrite-oxidation was constant or nearly so. Based on this fact, it was suggested that nitrite-oxidizing bacteria in the percolated soil may be composed of two types of cells, active and nearly inactive. Keywords
