Abstract
Double ionization of the atomic shell accompanying the -shell internal conversion of the 88.0-keV transition of has been studied by recording coincidences between x rays and x rays emitted when the double vacancies are filled. The probability per -shell internal conversion that a double -shell vacancy is formed, , was found to be (1.53±0.24) × , and is about a factor of 5 smaller than a previous measurement. The energy shift, , of the "hypersatellite" x ray was measured to be (373 ± 75) eV.
