Abstract
THE therapeutic objective in infection due to Group A streptococci is the eradication of the organism from the respiratory tract to prevent the chain of events leading to rheumatic fever. Despite the in vitro susceptibility of all strains of Group A streptococci to penicillin, treatment failures continue to occur as judged by the persistence of streptococci after presumably effective doses of penicillin.Consideration of reasons for treatment failures is varied. In one study, interest has focused on patient co-operation in taking the therapeutic agent for the fully prescribed period.1 Other investigators have observed the persistence of penicillin-susceptible organisms after penicillin . . .Keywords
