High spin states inSi28andNi58

Abstract
Proton inelastic cross sections have been measured for the 5 and 6 (T=0, 1) states of Si28 and the 6+ state of Ni58 at Ep=333, 498, and 800 MeV. These data, and previously published data at Ep=135 and 178 MeV, are analyzed in the context of the distorted wave impulse approximation. The transition densities obtained from the proton scattering analysis are compared with those we obtain from fitting the corresponding electron scattering form factors in an attempt to evaluate the validity of the distorted wave impulse approximation at high momentum transfer over the range Ep=135800 MeV. The proton and electron values of theoretical normalization factors are in reasonable agreement with each other for the unnatural parity states but are in agreement only at the highest proton energies for the natural parity states.
