States ofV54andMn58

Abstract
The Cr54(t, He3)V54 and Fe58(t, He3)Mn58 reactions have been used to study the masses and the low-lying excited states of V54 and Mn58, using 23 MeV tritons and a quadrupole-dipole-dipole-dipole spectrometer. The mass excess of V54 is -49 891(15) keV. At least 19 excited states of V54 with Ex<2.5 MeV have been observed. The mass excess of Mn58 is -55 832(30) keV, assuming that an (unresolved) isomeric state exists at Ex=30±10 keV. β decay evidence from other work, together with these results, suggests that these two states have Jπ=3+ and 0+. Sixteen other states of Mn58 have been observed with Ex<1.9 MeV.
