Studies on Newcastle Disease Virus Encephalitis in Rhesus Monkeys

Abstract
Summary: Newcastle disease virus provoked encephalitis in rhesus monkeys following intracerebral inoculation. The histopathologic changes in monkeys consisted of a chorio-meningo-encephalitis. A comparative study of two strains of NDV indicated a fundamental similarity in the ability of each to cause encephalitis with corresponding histological changes in the brain. One strain of the virus has been transferred by brain-to-brain passage in rhesus monkeys. There was no evidence of infection following intradermal, intranasal, or intraneural inoculation of virus.
