Abstract
Carol Frattali's excellent consideration of the need for new functional assessments of communication is timely, necessary and reflective of our field's commitment to first rate patient care. It is also reflective of the concerns of many speech-language clinicians ‘in the trenches’ have been clamouring for more appropriate, functional, clinically relevant assessment measures for the past 10–15 years. However, as Frattali points out, few appropriate protocols have appeared. Keywords
