Abstract
An analytical model is developed to study layered structures of photorefractive thin films, a promising application of stratified volume holographic optical elements. The theory gives a closed-form solution for the first-order diffraction efficiency of such elements. A new holographic multiplexing scheme that uses the photorefractive phase shift induced by an applied electric field is also analyzed with this theory. Keywords
