Abstract
Using 340-Mev unpolarized protons, the polarization of deuterons produced at a center-of-mass angle of 115° in the reaction has been measured. The deuterons were detected in coincidence with the mesons and were analyzed by scattering from a carbon target at 24°. In conjunction with previous experiments on the reaction, this measurement completes the specification of the phenomenological parameters of Rosenfeld and Gell-Mann and Watson. Specifically it permits the determination of the relative phases of the several modes of meson production, which in turn are related to the phase shifts at this energy.
