Abstract
Wandering is often a perplexing problem in providing care to persons with a dementing illness. Although restraints have long been presumed to provide a measure of safety for wanderers, they are not the best approach for responding to wandering behavior. In this article, promising strategies for assessing and intervening with wanderers are identified from current research on this puzzling behavior. Keywords
