Layer rigidity and spacing in intercalation compounds

Abstract
A generalization of Vegard’s law for the average spacing between layers when atoms with different sizes are intercalated is derived. New parameters are introduced that describe the layer rigidity associated with ‘‘catchment areas’’ around the large ions.Keywords
