Abstract
Males and females of Glischrochilus quadrisignatus (Say) were attracted to traps baited with the C6H12O2, compounds butyl acetate and propyl propionate and a C6H10O2, compound, allyl propionate. Blendsof chemicals did not significantlyincrease beetle captures, and eight other C6H12O2, isomers were not attractive to beetles in field tests. Butyl acetate and propyl propionate were not significantly different in attracting beetles in most tests, and allyl propionate was not as attractive. Chemicals tested in the laboratory in various polyethylene dispensers showed that, in a constant exhaust air speed of 0.5 m/s1 butyl acetate and propyl propionate have similar release rates, but allyl propionate was released more slowly. Traps at 0.25, 2.6, and 4.75 m above ground showed reduced beetle captures with increased trap height. Beetles were trapped using fruit volatiles from May to September; a peak of captures occurred in July. Keywords
