Abstract
We describe a new kind of ion source using a metal vapor vacuum arc as the plasma formation mechanism. The source is simple and reliable and can produce long pulse intense ion beams from any solid electrically conducting material. Using a range of materials from lithium to uranium we have extracted low divergence beams with ion current up to 1 A.Keywords
