Abstract
A fractionation procedure for following the breakdown of sap and chloroplast ribonucleic acids at pH 9, following precipltation with trichloroacetic acid, is described. Both sap and chloroplast nucleic acids were partially degraded to a mixture of mononucleotides containing an excess of pyrimidines over purines. The remaining breakdown products were found to be contained, in polynucleotide combination principally in material insoluble at pH 9 and in protein precipltates obtained during fractionation. The purine and pyrimidine distr. following enzymic and chemical degradation of these fractions is described Differences in the ease of degradation of sap and chloroplast nucleic acids are described. The extent of denaturation of sap ribonuclease and phosphatase following precipltation with trichloroacetic acid was detd. Keywords
