The Synthesis and Complex Formation of 5,6-Dihydrocyclopent [f, g] Acenaphthylene-1,2-Dione Dioxin

Abstract
5,6-Dihydrocyclopent [f, g] acenaphthylene-1,2-dione, DAD, has been prepared by Friedel-Crafts acylation of acenaphthene with oxalyl chloride in the presence of aluminium bromide as the catalyst. The dioxime derivative of this a-diketone, 5,6-dihydrocyclopent [f, g] acenaphthylene-1,2-dione dioxime, DAOH2, has been synthesized ad its structure has been elucidated by elemental analysis, n.m.r., i.r., u.v.-visible spectral data. Complexes of Co(III), Ni(II), Cd(II), Pd(II), and Pt(II) have been isolated and their structures have been proposed on the basis of elemental analysis and i.r. data.
