Abstract
When c? rats were fasted for 1, 2,7, 10, or 14 days, and then were force-fed a high carbohydrate diet, the tolerance to the diet was markedly decreased. Glycosuria, hyperglycemia and "food-shock" were produced by amts. of food which represented much less than a normal caloric intake for non-fasted rats of the same initial wt. The extent of reduction in the assimilation limit was related to the duration of fast.
