Study of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+→φK+ and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Ds+→φK+

Abstract
We have searched for the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D±→φ K± and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Ds±→φ K± in data from the Fermilab photoproduction experiment E691. The D± decay mode is of particular interest because it cannot result from simple spectator decay. We observe a D± signal corresponding to a branching ratio of B(D±→φK±)=(3.31.5+1.8±0.8)×104. In the Ds± mode we measure an upper limit B(Ds±→φK±)<0.2%.
